About replacing and purchasing new tatami mats
What is tatami replacement?
When tatami mats become sun damaged or severely damaged, you can replace the tatami surface and tatami border with new ones while leaving the tatami floor intact. This is called "re-covering tatami mats." As a guide, this should be done about once every five years. This page provides information on "re-covering tatami mats."

What is new purchase?
Replacing the tatami floor, tatami surface, and tatami borders is called a new purchase. If the tatami feels soft or bumpy when you walk on it, we recommend replacing the entire tatami floor with a new one. If the tatami floor is damaged, the tatami surface will also wear out quickly, which will not only reduce the functionality of the tatami, but also make it unhygienic. 1. Natural rush grass from Kumamoto
You can enjoy the nostalgic scent of natural Japanese rush grass. It is said that the scent relaxes people's minds, and research has shown that it helps children concentrate better on their studies. It is characterized by changing from green to golden color after a few years.
2. Daiken Washi Tatami
These tatami mats are made from washi paper instead of rush grass. They are stain-resistant and easy to maintain. They hardly ever discolor in the sun, and they are also extremely resistant to mites and mold. They are treated with antibacterial and deodorizing properties. 
Furthermore, Daiken washi tatami mats are available in eight different colors.

2. Collection of tatami mats
First visit (collection)
We will visit you at the agreed date and time to collect your old tatami mats.
Moving furniture
Move any furniture that is on the tatami mats.

We will check for repairs on the spot and write the location information on the back of the tatami mat before removing it and carrying it away.
Cleaning the floor
We will clean the floor after removing the tatami mats.

3. Work in our company
Take it back to our factory
The removed tatami mats will be transported to our factory.
Re-covering tatami mats
In our factory, experienced craftsmen will carry out the tatami mat replacement work.
Measure the width of the tatami mat you brought home.
The threads that are sewing the tatami edges and tatami facings together are removed, leaving only the tatami bed.
Only the tatami floor
A new tatami mat is laid down and sewn on both sides.
While sewing the new tatami edges to the floor covered with tatami mats, cut the tatami mats to the measured width.
Fold the edge of the tatami mat over and sew the width of the edge as well.
4. Delivery
Second visit (delivery)
Once the tatami mat has had its surface replaced, it will be carried into the customer's room for delivery.

Put the tatami mat back in its original position.
Tatami mat adjustment
After laying the tatami, we check the repaired areas and any unevenness in the tatami, and make any adjustments necessary.
Dry wiping of tatami mats
Finally, wipe it dry and the job is done.
